How to go to heaven

John 5:24 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

According to this verse, spoken by Jesus, anyone who hears God’s word and believes on him has everlasting life. “Everlasting” means it never ends, that’s why the next part of the verse says that someone who believes on Jesus “shall not come into condemnation.” That's a promise that you will never be lost in the future. But what does it mean to "believe on" Jesus? To "believe on" or "believe in" simply means to "put your trust in". If I jump out of an airplane with a parachute strapped to my back and someone asks me what I am believing in to keep me from dying, I would say the parachute strapped to my back. That's what I am trusting to keep me safe. In the exact same way, when the Bible says you must "believe in" or "believe on" Jesus, it means you have to put all of your trust in him.

First we must realize....

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

The Bible tells us that we are all sinners. No one has lived a perfect life except Jesus. We all have sinned at some point or another. Everyone has told a lie at some point in their life. The Bible even says that having a foolish thought is sin.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

The penalty for sin is death.  But death doesn't just mean physical death.  There is another kind of death in the Bible, which is spiritual death.  And death does not mean you cease to exist, but rather means that you will go to a place of death described in the verse below.

Revelation 20:14-15 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. (15) And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

There is a second death for those who are not saved, called the lake of fire.  This is where everyone who is not saved will go and spend eternity.  Hell is real, every scientist will tell you the earth is filled with fire.  But there's good news.

Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his own love for us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

According to the Bible, God loves us and does not want us to go to hell. The Bible tells us that Jesus died for us. He bore our sins for us and paid the penaty for our sin.  He did this for us because we could not get to heaven on our own.

1 Corinthians 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; (4) And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

The Bible tells the story of how Christ died for our sins, was buried and rose again on the third day according to the scriptures.  Jesus suffered the penalty of our sin so we don't have to.  He bore all of our sins for us, and died in our place.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

You may have seen or heard this verse before because it is a very well known verse of the Bible.  Don't miss the fact that Jesus calls being saved everlasting life, just like the first verse we looked at.  Jesus use this phrase over and over in the Bible to describe salvation.  When you get saved you are trusting Christ to save you.  You must place all of your faith in him and what he did to save you. You cannot trust Christ and the fact that you are going to do better.  You have to trust Christ alone for salvation.

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Just as the Bible said in Romans 6:23 above, salvation is offered as a free gift.  A gift is something you receive that is paid for by someone else.  If you pay for it in any way, it is no longer a gift.  If you try to work for it, it is no longer a gift.  The gift of eternal life was paid for by Jesus.  All you have to do is receive that gift.  How do we receive the gift of eternal life?

Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

All you have to do to receive the gift of eternal life is believe in your heart that Jesus died for your sins and rose again, and call upon him to save you.  That's all there is to it!

Please get saved today!

2 Corinthians 6:2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

The Bible says "now is the day of salvation". Not tomorrow, today! I once wanted to give someone the gospel at work and thought to myself I would give it to him the next time I saw him. He went home and had a heart attack while mowing his lawn and died. There was no "next time." It's urgent that you get saved right now! As I have just shown you, all you have to do is believe the gospel.

If you would like to get saved right now, the Bible says we should call upon the name of Lord to be saved. You can pray this prayer right now:

"Dear Jesus, I know I am a sinner and deserve to go to hell. But I believe you died for me and paid the price for my sins. I now trust you alone to save me. Amen."

If you prayed this prayer and truly believe in your heart, you will be saved according to the Bible's promise.  The next step is to start reading the Bible.  You should also get baptized by a local Bible believing chruch.  However, baptism is not necessary for salvation, only faith in Christ is necessary.

FEEL FREE TO USE THIS PAGE TO SHARE THE GOSPEL WITH OTHERS.  The Bible records Jesus and the Apostles talking one on one with people and getting them saved.  You can have it ready on your phone to show anyone the gospel.
